Alanís is a municipality of 1,900 inhabitants, located just 110 km from Seville, in the heart of the Sierra Morena Norte Natural Park, surrounded by holm oaks and cork oaks.
Here we find the villages of La Nava, Fuente Juana and La Viruela.
It can be reached in two hours from Seville, along the Brenes-Cantillana-El Pedroso-Cazalla and Alanís roads.
It was a Roman and Arab settlement, which is precisely where its name Al Haniz, prosperous land, comes from.
The dehesas are their livelihood, producing cured meats, and there are also large plantations of olive trees, which produce excellent olive oil, much appreciated. There are also blue stone quarries and esparto grass work.
In Alanís, the Iberian pig takes centre stage, with its sausages and “colorá” lard.
